E-Stories - Digital Storytelling

Overview

The ERASMUS+ project 'Digital Storytelling in Supporting Immigrant University Students' focuses on the development, testing and evaluation of an online course in the form of a MOOC to promote storytelling in digital formats, taking into account migration and immigration, diversity and cultural aspects as well as language learning challenges. This will be complemented by the development, testing and evaluation of a guide for European language teachers in e-book format as well as technical toolkits, course materials and curricula and the publication of e-books with storytelling by learners in the context of digital stories,

The project has a duration of 36 months, with English being used as the project language.

Objective

The need to respond to the ongoing changes in the world of global education (such as increasing digitalization and efforts to adopt 21st century skills), multiculturalism and multilingualism, rising immigration rates and the increasing number of international students from social, economic and cultural backgrounds. The different backgrounds of higher education institutions in the countries (either due to the institutions' internationalization strategies or the migration crisis) were the starting point for this project. The partners of the consortium are aware of these challenges and problems and are convinced that a pedagogical intervention prioritizes the needs of digitalization, language learning and inclusion of these international or immigrant students.

E-STORIES aims to achieve the following objectives:

  • Improve students' language skills (improving the language skills of international university students), especially productive speaking and writing skills,
  • improve students' storytelling skills and empower them as authors of their stories/narratives
  • promote the digital competence and digital literacy of students by
  • promote students' digital literacy and digital literacy by improving their skills in using technology through digital storytelling practices,
  • the promotion of digital skills focuses on the 'what' and 'how' while the promotion of digital literacy considers the 'why', 'who' and 'for whom',
  • promote creativity and creative writing,
  • promote students' intercultural competence and awareness by exposing them to multinational and multicultural contexts and listening to or reading stories from diverse backgrounds,
  • enhance the professional competencies and TPACK (Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge) of language teachers.
